Yesterday was scary!

I had a very good night last night on Etsy which really helped brighten my night, especially after having quite a scare at the doctors...but all is okay now!

I went into the emergency room yesterday afternoon after having a really hard time breathing. I was tested for everything from non-hodgkin's lymphoma to having a heart attack to blood clots. I was so terrified!! :( I went throught a CT scan with contrast, blood work, chest X-ray and an ultrasound...I don't think I've ever been so scared in my life!! :(

Well 7 hours later, they didn't find anything bad (thank God!!), but I do have Pleurisy. Here's what is basically is: "Pleurisy occurs when the double membrane (pleura) that lines your chest cavity and surrounds each of your lungs becomes inflamed. Also called pleuritis, pleurisy typically causes sharp pain, almost always when you take a breath." -Taken from the Mayo Clinic online. The wall of my heart is also a little inflamed as well...AND I have exercise induced asthma...so fun fun! But at least it's nothing really serious. Just thinking that I could have cancer, or a heart attack...or even a blood clot...that was scary :( And I now know how people feel when they are going in to get tested for all of that. It is such a stressful experience and I never want to have to go through all that again. If you know of anyone who is going in for testing...go with them so they have some support.

That is all for now.

Went away for the weekend..and now I'm back!

I went away with my family for the weekend and now I'm back home :) It was great to spend quality time with them! We went swimming all day yesterday and had a blast. We also celebrated my brother's birthday while we were away.

As soon as I got back home, I was so happy to find that I had a couple conversations from 2 people on Etsy who are going to be donating items to my silent auction baskets! That makes 7 so far! I am so grateful!

Here's who's contributing so far:

I also wanted to thank all the people who have been sharing their own personal stories with me. It is amazing to see how cancer has affected so many people. I wish I could give you all hugs. To everyone who has shared their personal story with me, I just want to say that it means a lot to me.

I am going to go for now, hope everyone's weekend went great!

Hugs to all!

TGIF

Well it's finally friday and it's also my brother's birthday today. This week has literally just flew by! But getting back to my brother's birthday, since the American Cancer Society is creating a world with more birthdays, I am celebrating by giving away a free treat with every purchase from my store! It's kind of like my Happy Birthday to everyone in a way.

I am celebrating my birthday by doing the Relay for Life (it's on June 26th which is actually my birthday). I am also making a huge banner for our campsite. I have already about 11-12 names I am going to be writing on there. If you want your loved one's name on the banner, let me know. The banner is going to have two sections...in Honor of and in Memory of.

The relay is only 92 days away!!

But before I go...I must rant...
Unfortunately, I am not feeling the greatest at all today. My chest is hurting more than ever today...ugh, I am so done with this stupid injury!!! :(

WOO!! The scale numbers made me happy this morning!

Well I stepped on the scale this morning with tons of dread in my stomach, but to my surprise I have lost 2 more pounds!! I was so excited!! I have been having a difficult time working out with my chest injury, but losing 2 pounds made me so happy. I keep checking out my goal jeans hanging up in my laundry room...wishing I could wear them now, but I'm hoping I'll be able to wear them by fall. They are my first pair of real skinny jeans :) I bought them a LONG time ago when I was still at my heaviest...but with about 65 pounds lost, I can actually pull them up now! I am so excited about that...even though it makes me sound like a dork haha :)

Well that's all my updating for now, I will update again later! I am going to be working out soon :)

What does the Relay for Life mean to you?

I get asked this question a lot. The Relay for Life means everything to me. I am relaying because of all the loved ones I have known who have battled cancer (and some have lost that battle).

In November 2008, my grandma was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer (the cancer had spread into her spine). I was quite shocked to find out the news and we were all very upset. Her health began to deteriorate pretty quickly and the last time I was able to see her doing pretty well was during Thanksgiving that year. In May, she came down with an infection from pneumonia and was put into the hospital. I called her on the phone and that was the last time I was able to actually have a conversation with her. Just a week later, she got even worse and was put into the ICU. My family and I went to go and visit with her. She was awake just a couple minutes when my dad, my uncle and I were able to go into her room to visit, but those couple of minutes meant the world to me. She fell asleep and stayed asleep the rest of the time. Late that night was transferred to a hospice and we were all told she wouldn't make it through the night...but she did until the following evening. We were with her at the hospice. There was a time when my mom, my aunt and I were alone with her and we all talked to her...even though she was asleep, I knew she was listening. It was so hard watching her suffer to try and breathe. My mom and I left that afternoon, and just a couple hours later we got the phone call that she had passed away.

My grandma passed away on May 22, 2009. She was only 60 years old.

I have also lost my best friend's mom (who was like another mom to me) to brain cancer.

I have two tattoos in memory of both of them, I loved them both so much.
My best friend's dad is now going through stage 4 lung cancer as well. He is doing pretty well right now for himself and we visit with him and my best friend as much as we can.

My other best friend lost his father in December of 2008.

My grandma (my mom's mom) had non-hodgkins lymphoma but is a survivor.
My aunt had ovarian cancer but is also a survivor.

My mom lost her dad and her grandpa both to cancer when she was just a little girl.

Cancer has surrounded my family and friends and I am SICK AND TIRED OF IT!!!

These are the reasons why I am relaying.

Working out yesterday

Well I was able to do my Turbo Kick workout last night and I'm so thrilled I was able too! I was in trouble, though, when it got down to doing pushups...I felt like a fire started across my chest and I couldn't breathe. So I modified them greatly by going to my knees and just doing "shallow" pushups. I felt great that I was able to push through the workout and do it!

Also, I would love to thank Jean May Originals' blog for posting my Easter Egg Hunt Sugar Cookies!!

That truly means a lot to me! :)

Well I am going to get some breakfast now, I will be posting more throughout the day!

WHO WANTS THEIR STORE OR BUSINESS TO BE MAJORLY PROMOTED??!!

**SEND ME A COMMENT IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN GETTING YOUR STORE PROMOTED DURING THE SILENT AUCTIONS...ALL I ASK IS FOR A SMALL DONATED ITEM FOR ONE OF THE BASKETS, AND I WILL PASS OUT YOUR CARDS TO EVERYONE I COME IN CONTACT WITH...THERE ARE GOING TO BE AT LEAST 200-300 PEOPLE SO FAR!!**

I am hosting 2 silent auctions. The first silent auction will be for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. The second auction will be on behalf of Team Hole in the Wall...for more information on both, just go to my store and read my shop announcement :)

These silent auctions will be hosted on May 1st (For the American Cancer Society) and May 15th (On behalf of Team Hole in the Wall).

I am making two baskets for each event (so 4 baskets total) and am already in the process of contacting businesses around where I live to also donate items to these baskets.

I am donating edible chocolate "floral" arrangements (2 dozen dark and milk chocolate rose bouquets) to each basket.

I am looking for anyone else who would like to donate any items to these baskets? It doesn't have to big or expensive.

Also, there are going to be A LOT of people (AT LEAST 200-300..AND THERE ARE PROBABLY GOING TO BE EVEN MORE THAN THAT) at these two events!! So feel free to send some business cards with your items...I will pass them out to EVERYONE!!

I would like to have at least 30 different things (in total from everywhere...not just from one place) in each basket...so if you can donate anything at all, please let me know!

I would need the items by April 24th for the American Cancer Society and May 11th for Team Hole in the Wall.

Just let me know which one you would like to donate too...this is very much appreciated!!

On a fitness note...
I have to go jogging today, but my chest is hurting so bad from the tear :( I just hope I'll be able to jog without too much of a problem. Injuries are never fun...I just wish it would heal faster!! I'm so frustrated to not be able to do any heavy strength training like I had been doing.

Wish me luck!

Sunday

Well today is a lot more beautiful than yesterday! The sun is shining and I can hear birds chirping...yesterday was cold and snowy...ugh.

Today I worked out on the bike and went 13.48 miles in 60 minutes...burned 300 calories doing so as well...made sure my resistance was well up there. Since I have to take a break from doing anything really with my arms (due to my chest injury) I figured I'd just keep biking and jogging. I can still lift some weights, but it has to be very low weight (like 3-5 pounds..!!...I was using 15 and 20 pounds!!). I tore the cartilage in my chest...isn't that just dandy >_<>

This morning for breakfast I had 1 Cup of multigrain cheerios, half a banana and 1/2 Cup of skim milk...yummy!! I love cheerios :D

I have had 5 sales in my online bakery too, I'm so happy! :) All the money is going towards the relay for life and the marathon!

Well that is all for now, going to go get ready since I am gonna go out today, yay! :)

Have a great day everyone!

It's been a while...

Sorry for the gap between postings, but I've been having some complications. I hurt my chest pretty bad and have been having a hard time breathing and doing my normal strength training...which is NOT ideal when training to run a marathon!

I have been training still and working out everyday though!

I have an etsy store now to sell baked goods for the Relay for Life and Team Hole in the Wall (This is for the marathon).

http://www.2ladiescharitybakers.etsy.com

Yes, I know what you're all thinking...I sit at my computer and preach about healthy eating and all that, but I am selling sweet stuff?? Well, again, this is like my online bake sale for CHARITY...(I don't recall ever going to a steamed veggie sale).

I will be posting more soon...but before I go...here's a look at a before picture of me and an "after-so far" picture of me. I still have some weight to lose, but I am smaller than I was!!

Running 101

Let's just say that when I get into something, I go 100% and over-do it. I have so far read 3 books on running/racing and have more from the library...and that's just from this past week! I want to learn all I can about marathons, racing, running, etc. I'm starting to feel like a zombie already. I still can't believe I will be running a marathon in October...some people think I'm crazy!

Anyway though, I said I would keep a detailed record of all my experiences with training and things like that...

Monday: This was probably the hardest day. My shinsplints were killing me. I am not used to jogging for a long period of time like that...especially in the winter...I tend to hibernate and do my workouts indoors! Plus afterwards I came in and did Turbo Kick!

Tuesday: Another hard day...jogged/power walked hard. Then it was time to do ChaLEAN Extreme Lean Circuit 1. All I can say is my legs were screaming, "OUCH".

Wedensday: Trained a bit differently...1.5 miles...jogging/walking. I jogged 60 seconds, walked 60 seconds and so on. This was actually much easier on my legs, than what I had been doing Monday and Tuesday.

Thursday: This was my day off from outdoor activities...but I did do ChaLEAN Extreme Lean Circuit 2.

Today: Training the same as wedensday...with ChaLEAN Extreme Burn Intervals.

I've also been looking into different body lubes to try in the future (when I really start my jogging/sprinting training). These help to prevent chafing...so far I have two at Dick's Sporting Goods...Cramer's and Bodyglide.

That is all for now...I will update more later

Okay, NEW Update!

Well, I have done...I have signed up for my first marathon! I did it for a good cause. I joined Team Hole in the Wall, which is a camp for kids who are seriously ill. I have to raise $1,500 (which is a small price compared to what that $1,500 is going towards!). I will be running the marathon on October 10, 2010...I have 8 months to train! I started my training today and yikes are my shins sore! I have ice on them now and they are elevated. I have had problems with shinsplints in the past, and unfortunately they are acting up again. I even made sure to stretch really well and I've been working out since early August. I guess my body isn't used to my feet hitting the pavement lol, it's been a while!

This blog has so far been about my weight loss journey, and now it's also going to be a part of my training journey!
